We then head to Yehliu Geological Park. The park is one of the most impressive and unusual places in the world. It is situated on a 1700 metre high cliff from which strange and bizarre natural sculptures rise. The park is located near the city of Keelung on a small peninsula off the northern coast of the island of Taiwan in the district of Taipei. The special geological diversity of these rocks, formed by erosion and shaped by atmospheric influences over the centuries, has created a surreal landscape.

In the morning, you will visit the National Palace Museum (without tour guide), which houses the world's most important collection of Chinese art treasures. The majority of the 620,000 or so exhibits come from the former imperial collection and were brought to Taiwan for safekeeping. As the collection is so extensive, the exhibitions change regularly - so every visit offers new, unique insights. Taipei 101 (including Fast Track and Observatory Deck) awaits you in the afternoon. The 508 metre high landmark with its 101 floors is one of Asia's architectural icons and offers a spectacular panoramic view over Taipei. The elegant mall at the base of the building combines first-class design and exclusive boutiques to create a stylish shopping experience.
Then return to your hotel.
In the morning, your private transfer will take you to Sun Moon Lake (approx. 225 km | approx. 3 hours).
You will visit the Wenwu Temple and make a stop at the Ci En Pagoda. Then visit the Ita Thao Aboriginal Village.

In the morning, visit Sun Moon Lake. At 7.5 - 8 square kilometres, Sun Moon Lake is the largest inland body of water in Taiwan. It lies at an altitude of 760 metres and has a depth of approx. 27 metres. In 1934, its surface area increased from 4.55 square kilometres to its current size. It got its name from the shape of its shores, which resemble the sun in the east and a crescent moon in the west. Dragon Lake is another name for the lake.
Your journey then starts in the direction of Tainan by private transfer (approx. 160 km / approx. 2 hours).

In the morning, you will visit one of Tainan's landmarks. During the Japanese colonial period, Koxinga Shrine was renamed Kaizan Shinto Shrine, making it the first Shinto shrine of the Japanese government in Taiwan and the only Shinto shrine outside mainland Japan. The shrine preserves the memorial of the builder and an imperial decree issued by the Guangxu Emperor in 1874. The Koxinga Museum within the shrine complex serves as an important place for the presentation of information about the historical culture of the Tungning Kingdom as well as artefacts from that period. Built in 1662, the Koxinga Shrine was dedicated to King Koxinga, who prepared the country from the Dutch colonisers and led the country's development.
The main luggage cannot be carried on the train journey. Your driver will take this with you for the return journey to Taipei and you will receive it at the hotel late in the evening of the same day.

German citizens can enter Taiwan for tourism or business purposes for up to 90 days without a visa; for longer stays (work/study), a visa is required in advance. A valid passport (recommended remaining validity: 6 months), a return or onward flight ticket and, if necessary, proof of the purpose and duration of your stay (e.g. hotel bookings) are required. Important: Since October 2025, the obligatory digital entry card (TWAC) is mandatory and replaces the old paper forms. Online registration should ideally take place up to three days before arrival via the website of the immigration authority (NIA).

There are no compulsory vaccinations for Taiwan for direct entry from Germany. However, the Federal Foreign Office recommends the standard vaccinations according to the current vaccination calendar of the Robert Koch Institute for children and adults (see: www.rki.de) and complete them if necessary. Depending on the itinerary and length of stay, further vaccination recommendations may be useful in individual cases.
The weather in Taiwan is characterised by regional differences. The north has a subtropical climate, while the south is tropical with warm temperatures all year round. The summer months are hot and humid, and typhoons can occur between May and November. The best time to visit is generally between October and April, when the climate is more pleasant and drier.
