After lunch, drive around the cliff towards the township of Katoomba. At the Eagle Hawk lookout you will see the famous Three Sisters Rock Formation with further views of the Jamison Valley. From here you continue around the Narrowneck Plateau with more viewpoints. Heading south you will explore Wentworth Falls on a well trodden path. Experience the local flora and fauna up close while your guide tells you about the geology of the Blue Mountains and how they were formed. The furnishings of the lodge cabins and suites put you in the middle of the alpine wilderness. Some even have a fireplace and all are comfortable and cosy. They are located in close proximity to great hiking trails and are connected to the main lodge via boardwalks: these are also favourite routes for the local wildlife, which often leads to unexpected but delightful animal sightings.
Gastronomy
With a strong Tasmanian focus, Highland Restaurant follows a paddock-to-plate philosophy, sourcing produce almost exclusively from within a 160km radius, showcasing the region and ensuring dishes are always prepared to a high standard. For more casual dining, visit the Tavern Bar & Bistro and immerse yourself in a rustic tavern atmosphere.
Wellness, sport and leisure
Use the pool tables or simply warm up next to a crackling log fire. After a day of hiking on beautiful trails or paddling through the tranquillity of Dove Lake, you can retreat to the award-winning Waldheim Alpine Spa.
German citizens require a visa or an ETA (Electronic Travel Authority) to enter Australia. The application must be made before travelling and cannot be made on arrival. They also need a valid passport to enter the country.
No vaccinations are required. However, it is advisable to check the standard immunisations. The Federal Foreign Office recommends checking the standard vaccinations according to the current vaccination calendar of the Robert Koch Institute for children and adults (see: www.rki.de) when travelling and completing them if necessary.
The climate in the south and east of Australia is temperate, the north is tropical and the centre is characterised by a desert climate. Travellers to Australia should expect heavy thunderstorms and downpours, and local flooding can sometimes occur. In the summer months, tropical cyclones can be expected in the northern coastal areas, and the Australian summer is often accompanied by bush and forest fires. The best time to travel to Australia depends on how you feel. Those who like it hot should fly in the Australian summer, i.e. between October and March. Those who prefer cooler temperatures should travel in the Australian winter, with June, July and August being the best times to visit.
No compulsory vaccinations are required for direct entry from Germany. Make sure that your standard vaccinations are up to date according to the Robert Koch Institute's vaccination calendar. Vaccinations against hepatitis A are also recommended as travel vaccinations, as are vaccinations against hepatitis B and meningococcal disease (ACWY) for long-term stays or special exposure.
