You will spend the whole day travelling with your German-speaking tour guide to discover the wonders of Kathmandu. The first stop is Durbar Square, where numerous shrines, temples and sculptures are packed into a small space, including the Taleju Temple, the Jagannath Temple and the gigantic figure of Kala Bhairaba, the god of destruction. We then head to Swayambhunath, a huge, mainly Buddhist temple complex in the west of Kathmandu. Not only the temples are impressive, but also the panoramic view over the Kathmandu Valley. You will then visit the Budhanilkantha statue of the Hindu god Vishnu, which is located around 10 km from the centre of Kathmandu at the foot of Shivapuri Hill. It is considered to be the largest and most beautiful stone carving in the whole of Nepal, carved from a single block of black basalt stone. You will stop for lunch at a local restaurant. Finally, you will head to Shivapuri National Park. This is the closest national park to Kathmandu, lies at an altitude of 2,563 metres and is the second highest mountain in the Kathmandu Valley north of Kathmandu. Shivapuri offers marvellous Himalayan views of the Langtang Himalaya, the Rolwaling Himalaya, the Kathmandu Valley, the Budhanilkantha Temple and the Nangi Gompa. This is also a good place to stretch your legs: The forest is beautiful and you can spot many birds, including the Kajin pheasant.
