The old town of Cádiz, around 3,000 years old, is picturesquely situated on a narrow headland, directly on the Playa de la Caleta with its elegant beach promenade. A visit to the Andalusian capital of Seville takes you back to the heyday of Moorish splendour and rule, but also to the age of discovery. The city on the Guadalquivir was a centre of Spanish maritime trade with the New World. Many of the buildings in the historic centre are UNESCO World Heritage Sites, including the magnificent Moorish Alcazar fortress palace and the gigantic Gothic cathedral of Santa María de la Sede. As a lively metropolis, Seville is still the heart of Andalusian culture today and is considered the proud cradle of flamenco.
