Rooms and buildings
Stay in a hotel like no other in Jerusalem in individual buildings, each with its own character.
The Old Wing is a former Pasha residence with a central courtyard and the Pasha's original living room and bedroom, along with the rooms of his four wives, all of which are now available as guest rooms. The East House and Palm House are located directly opposite the main entrance to the hotel and each have their own character, stunning architecture with vaulted or painted ceilings, individual gardens and are a real 'oasis within an oasis' with plenty of peace and privacy.
The rooms in the new wing are organised thematically by floor, each with a different character and style: the Swedish floor, the Spafford floor, the Allenby floor and the TE Lawrence floor. Several of these rooms have spacious terraces.
The main building houses the lobby and reception, the Arabesque Restaurant, the Courtyard Restaurant, Val's Brasserie, the Cellar Bar, the pool and fitness area and the business centre. Guest rooms include standard rooms, all comfort categories, deluxe Pasha, junior suites, suites and room no. 6.
The Palm House was originally a two-storey building and dates back to the end of the nineteenth century. An additional storey was added in the 1930s. It adjoins the East House and is directly opposite the entrance to the Main House. It adjoins the Palm House Garden where the summer bar and grill are located. Recently renovated to the highest standards, the Palm House houses luxurious rooms, some with spectacular ceiling murals, as well as an extensive American Colony archive, which was officially opened to the public in spring 2014.
The East House: one of the original buildings of the American Colony, was built around 1870 by Pasha Rabah Effendi El Husseini and acquired by the American Colony in 1895. It is located directly opposite the main house and borders the garden. The vaulted ceilings and tiled floors of the older rooms are historic. On the top floor there are comfortable loft rooms (penthouse suites) with spacious spa baths.
The upper rooms and the penthouse suites in this building can be reached via a spectacular external staircase or, if you prefer, by lift.
The following rooms are available in the East House: Classic Pasha, Deluxe Pasha and Penthouse Suites. Some of the rooms at East House have their own terrace or private courtyard.
The Cow Byre: originally built by the early members of the American colony in the local style as an agricultural building, it was first used as a barn and animal shelter and later as a blacksmith's shop.
The original roof beams and the old brickwork have been preserved and integrated into the newly restored rooms and suites, some of which have their own patio or terrace.
We will be happy to advise you in detail about the many different options for staying at The American Colony Hotel.
