Siem Reap
When you think of Cambodia, do impressive temples inevitably spring to mind? You start the morning with a visit to the first one: Angkor Thom. The "Great Capital" was built at the end of the 12th and beginning of the 13th century as the new capital of the Angkor Empire. Numerous buildings of the huge temple complex have been preserved to this day. You start your tour at the South Gate and its massive statues. The tour through the UNESCO World Heritage Site takes you to numerous temples that stood here before the square complex was built. The impressive historical monuments on your route today include the imposing main temple Bayon, the five-tiered, walled pyramid temple Baphuon and the royal enclosure. Stroll through the remains of the former pyramid temple Phimeanaka, discover the elephant depictions on the Elephant Terrace and examine the statue on the "Terrace of the Leper King", which apparently does not depict the Angkor builder King Yasovarman I (899-910), who contracted leprosy, as once assumed, but the Hindu god of death Yama.
You will experience the tourist highlight of the temple landscape in the afternoon: the grandiose Khmer temple complex of Angkor Wat, which invites you to immerse yourself in the fascinating history of this historic site. Particularly beautiful: the sunset over Angkor Wat, which bathes the ancient walls in this special light.
Siem Reap
Does the history lover in you want to discover more temples? So start the morning with a visit to the Banteay Srei temple. The Hindu temple ruins are known and loved for their ornamentation as one of the most ornate temples. The shining historical monument was built in the 10th century in honour of the god Shiva. Your tour then takes you to the Khmer temple Banteay Samres. This is one of the most complete and beautiful temples in Angkor and features an unusual mixture of Hindu and Buddhist artwork.
Shiva also accompanies you in the afternoon: you visit the Eastern Mebon. Its architect built the Shiva temple in the 10th century on an artificial island that could only be reached by boat. From the Eastern Mebon, the tour continues to the Ta Prohm temple. The temple, which is embedded in plank roots, looks almost exactly the same today as it did when it was discovered in the middle of the 19th century.
Siem Reap - Hanoi
Can you imagine living in a village by and on the water? Not yet? You will change that on this seventh day. In the morning, you will take a boat out onto Tonle Sap Lake and visit the floating village of the lake dwellers on the way.
Back on the mainland, your artistic heart can take a little leap. You visit "Les Artisans D' Angkor". The initiative promotes the artistic vocational training of young people from the rural area around Angkor. In addition to traditional silk painting, they are also trained in the art of silversmithing, stonemasonry, woodcarving and carpentry. If you fall in love with a piece produced here, you can buy it at the end of your visit. Perhaps a nice souvenir for your loved ones at home?

Hanoi
On the eighth day, immerse yourself in the vibrant city life of Hanoi. You start with one of the city's landmarks: the One-Pillar Pagoda. Its reconstruction stands on a concrete base that rises out of an artificial lake. The pagoda is located near the Ho Chi Minh Mausoleum and home of "Uncle Ho". Your route then takes you to the Temple of Literature, the country's first state university. Today it is dedicated to the Chinese philosopher Confucius.
The afternoon begins with a visit to Hoan Kiem Lake and the Ngoc Son Temple. From here you continue your journey by bicycle rickshaw. Passing numerous alleyways and street vendors, you immerse yourself in the hustle and bustle of Hanoi's traffic. If this is your first trip to Asia, be prepared for wide eyes. It's often hard to imagine how the driver tries to squeeze through the last small gap, but in the end he manages to do so with ease and a smile on his face. In the afternoon, you will experience another Vietnamese tradition: the performance of the water puppet theatre. What you don't see: The performers are up to their bellies in water. What you do see: small puppets moving through the water in an impressive choreography.
Hanoi - Halong
You start the day with a three-and-a-half-hour drive to Halong City.
Around midday, you will board the Signature Cruises in Halong Bay. The marvellous five-star ship sails with you through Halong Bay - a navigational masterpiece. The bay with its 2,000 islands is a UNESCO World Heritage Site. Sit back and enjoy the junk trip with its fairytale views of thousands of steeply rising rocky islands and numerous small green islands that gradually drift past you. Let the islands drift away and your thoughts and worries with them. On this cruise you can relax, indulge yourself and enjoy. Many visitors to Vietnam call this piece of nature the highlight of any trip to Vietnam. End the day with a marvellous sunset over the water, delicious food and a restful sleep in your deluxe room.

German nationals do not require a visa to enter Vietnam until 30 June 2018 as long as their stay does not exceed 15 days. A visa is required to enter Cambodia. This can be obtained at the Cambodian embassy in Berlin, at international border crossings and online at www.mfaic.gov.kh can be applied for. The prices vary between 30 and 36 US dollars.

There are no vaccination requirements for direct entry from Germany. The Federal Foreign Office recommends the standard vaccinations according to the current vaccination calendar of the Robert Koch Institute for children and adults (see: www.rki.de) when travelling and complete them if necessary.
The tropical climate in Vietnam is characterised by warm temperatures and high humidity all year round. There can be noticeable climatic differences between the north and south of the country thanks to Vietnam's longitude. The north has a tropical climate, while the south has two seasons: the dry season (November to April) and the rainy season (May to October). A combination of northern and southern climates can be felt in the centre of the country. The best time to visit Vietnam is from late November to early May. Rain cannot be ruled out all year round.
The climate in neighbouring Cambodia is also tropical and warm and humid. As in the south of Vietnam, the climate here is divided into two seasons: dry season (November to March) and rainy season (April to October). Temperatures remain so high all year round that it stays warm all year round.
