Start the day with a relaxed breakfast before setting off on your first discovery tour of Lima with your private tour guide. Your tour takes you to Plaza Martín and on to the historic Plaza Mayor, which is still the most important square in the city, surrounded by the government palace, town hall, archbishop's palace and the impressive cathedral. You will then visit the renowned Larco Herrera Museum, which offers a fascinating insight into Peru's early civilisations with its extraordinary collection of pre-Columbian art.
After breakfast and check-out, you will be taken privately to the airport and fly from Lima to Arequipa. Your German-speaking tour guide will welcome you there and accompany you on a short tour of the city, including a visit to the impressive Santa Catalina monastery. You will then continue with an English-speaking guide who will accompany you on the three-hour drive to your lodge in the spectacular Colca Canyon.

If you want to see the legendary Andean condor in the wild, it is best to start early in the morning. There are particularly good opportunities in the morning at the „Cruz del Condor“ viewpoint, where the majestic birds often circle above the gorges at an impressive height. In the following two days, a varied activity programme awaits you with exciting tours through the mighty Colca Canyon. An experienced guide accompanies you at all times, leading you across centuries-old terraced landscapes and through scenery that seems almost surreal. The choice of activities is entirely up to you from the wide range on offer at your lodge.

In the morning, you will set off with your German-speaking tour guide on a private discovery tour of fascinating Cuzco. You will experience the picturesque heart of the former Inca capital and admire colonial buildings that rest on original Inca foundations and are now a UNESCO World Heritage Site. Your guide will then take you to the impressive Inca ruins around the city, where you will immerse yourself in the history of this extraordinary culture.
You will take part in the colourful Inti Raymi festival, including box lunch, admission, excellent seating, German-speaking private guide and private transfers. Originally celebrated on the winter solstice, this most important festival of the Inca empire marked the beginning of the new year and honoured the sun god Inti. Although it was suppressed during the Spanish colonial period, the festival later experienced an impressive revival. Today, Inti Raymi presents itself as a lively spectacle full of traditions that is deeply rooted in the local culture and delights visitors from all over the world.
After breakfast, you will set off in a private car with your German-speaking tour guide to the Sacred Valley of the Incas. The valley impresses with its wide fields, idyllic Andean villages, snow-capped mountains and colourful, lively markets. It used to play a central role in the Inca empire and is now home to numerous important ruins such as Pisac, Chinchero and Ollantaytambo as well as the impressive terraces of Moray and the salt terraces of Maras. These archaeological sites provide fascinating insights into the highly developed culture and way of life of the Incas. Depending on your schedule, hikes and individual explorations can be arranged flexibly with your guide.

Another highlight of your programme on this day is the visit to the world-famous Inca fortress of Machu Picchu, which towers dramatically high in the Andes. You will arrive in style on the Belmond Hiram Bingham luxury train, which will take you on an adventurous narrow-gauge railway through the picturesque landscape of the Urubamba Valley, the Sacred Valley of the Incas. The train journey itself is an experience in itself: elegant carriages in the style of the 1920s, coupled with a delicious brunch and accompanying Andean music, make the journey to Machu Picchu an unforgettable pleasure.
After your arrival in Aguas Calientes, a bus will take you up to the spectacular Inca fortress of Machu Picchu, which lies high on a mountain ridge in the Andes. On a private guided tour in German without other guests, you will discover the impressive buildings nestled in the majestic high mountain landscape. After the tour, you will have time to soak up the unique atmosphere before returning to the Sanctuary Lodge for refreshments. Early in the morning at 6:00 am you will be given entry to the ruins of Machu Picchu to experience the sunrise, including the bus rides. This means you can enjoy the site before the day tourists arrive and have enough time for hiking and the optional ascent of Huayna Picchu. A shuttle bus will then take you back to the valley, where you will have time for a stroll through Aguas Calientes and an individual lunch. At around 3 pm, you will travel back to Ollantaytambo on the modern 1st class Vistadome train, where your guide will be waiting to take you back to Cuzco in a private car to save you time.

Peru has a very diverse climate: On the coast and in the Amazon region, it is tropical to subtropical, while in the Andes it is temperate to cool, depending on the altitude. Lima has a dry desert climate with mild temperatures and mostly cloudy skies with very little rainfall. Around Machu Picchu you can expect a subtropical mountain climate with warm, humid conditions and frequent rainfall, with the dry season from April to October being ideal for visits.
