The charming coastal town of Paracas is the ideal starting point for discovering the Ballestas Islands by boat. The excursion takes place on a regular boat together with other guests and of course only takes place in suitable weather conditions. The archipelago is also known as the „little Galapagos“ due to its impressive wildlife: Sea lions sunbathe on the rocks, Guanot boobies can be observed at close range, curious dolphins may swim past, pelicans line the coast and, with a bit of luck, you may even spot Galapagos penguins. Back on land, you will visit a pisco distillery on a traditional wine bodega, learn all about the production of the Peruvian national drink and taste different types of pisco. The journey then continues to the idyllic Huacachina lagoon near Ica, before finally travelling to the hotel in Nazca.

After breakfast, you will experience a fascinating flyover of the mysterious Nazca Lines in a small aeroplane (approx. 30 minutes), which still pose a mystery to this day. From the air, the size of the desert below you becomes impressively visible as you discover the lines, triangles and figures, some of which are several hundred kilometres long. Your guide will explain various theories about the origins and meaning of these enigmatic scarps, so that together you can immerse yourselves in times gone by and puzzle over their secrets. The journey then takes you along a section of the Panamericana into the Andes to the white city of Arequipa. On the way, you will pass lush fruit and vegetable plantations and stop in Yauca to sample freshly harvested Peruvian olives. Before you leave the coast for good, you stop at an idyllic Pacific beach to feel the sand under your feet on a walk. The ascent into the mountainous Andes begins at the seaside resort of Camana, and you soon catch sight of the striking peaks of the three volcanoes Chachani, Misti and Pichu Pichu, between which Arequipa lies. After arriving in the city centre at an altitude of 2,335 metres, you check into your hotel and recover from the impressive journey.

Your journey continues to the impressive Colca Canyon. On the way there, you will pass through varied landscapes, encounter curious vicuñas and alpacas and cross a pass road at an altitude of 4,900 metres before reaching one of the deepest gorges in the world. The bottom of the gorge lies at around 2,200 metres and the Colca River has carved its way for kilometres into the reddish rock, creating a unique backdrop. If you want to observe the famous Andean condor, you should get up very early. The best opportunity to see this majestic bird is at the „Cruz del Condor“ viewpoint in the early hours of the morning. You then drive back to the hotel, stopping at particularly impressive places along the way to admire the spectacular cultivation terraces, which date back to pre-Inca times and are still in use today. Your experienced guide will explain the centuries-old terraces and the fascinating, almost otherworldly landscape. A short walk is also included. On request, he will also take you to the geysers, from where you can observe the boiling hot water from a safe distance, preferably early in the morning when the geysers are at their most active.

The morning is free for you to explore Cuzco on your own. At lunchtime, you will go on a private excursion with your guide to the Inca ruins in the surroundings of Cuzco, comfortably in a private car. After returning in the late afternoon, you will have the opportunity to stroll through San Blas on your own, the lively artists' quarter high up in the Andes, which you should definitely visit.

Machu Picchu is an extraordinary city, the ruins of which still give a sense of its former power and fascination. You are particularly lucky to be staying here and to experience the ruins almost to yourself at 6.00 am at sunrise, while the fog and clouds slowly clear. Day tourists arrive at the site later in the morning, so you have a time advantage. Entrance tickets and shuttle bus transfer are included, but a guide is not provided. In the early afternoon (approx. 2 pm), you will travel back to Ollantaytambo on the first-class Vistadome train and from there continue in a private car with a German-speaking guide back to your hotel in Cuzco, where you will arrive in the evening.
