The charming coastal town of Paracas is the ideal starting point for discovering the Ballestas Islands by boat. The excursion takes place on a regular boat together with other guests and of course only takes place in suitable weather conditions. The archipelago is also known as the „little Galapagos“ due to its impressive wildlife: Sea lions sunbathe on the rocks, guano boobies can be observed at close range, curious dolphins may swim past, pelicans line the coast and, with a bit of luck, you may even spot Galapagos penguins. Back on land, you will visit a pisco distillery on a traditional wine bodega, learn all about the production of the Peruvian national drink and taste different types of pisco. The journey then continues to the idyllic Huacachina lagoon near Ica, before finally travelling to the hotel in Nazca.

After breakfast, you will experience a fascinating overflight of the mysterious Nazca Lines in a small aeroplane (approx. 30 minutes), which are still a mystery to this day. From the air, the size of the desert below you becomes impressively visible as you discover the lines, triangles and figures, some of which are several hundred kilometres long. Your guide will explain various theories about the origins and meaning of these enigmatic scarps, allowing you to immerse yourself in times gone by and puzzle over their secrets. The journey then takes you along a section of the Panamericana into the Andes to the white city of Arequipa. On the way, you will pass lush fruit and vegetable plantations and stop in Yauca to sample freshly harvested Peruvian olives. Before you leave the coast for good, you stop at an idyllic Pacific beach to feel the sand under your feet on a walk. The ascent into the mountainous Andes begins at the seaside resort of Camana, and you soon catch sight of the striking peaks of the three volcanoes Chachani, Misti and Pichu Pichu, between which Arequipa lies. After arriving in the city centre at an altitude of 2,335 metres, you check into your hotel and recover from the impressive journey.

Explore the old town on a guided walk, visit the Santa Catalina monastery and enjoy the viewpoints with views of the surrounding volcanoes. Afterwards, you will have time to acclimatise to the altitude, relax or discover the city on your own.

A relaxed day to acclimatise to the altitude begins with a visit to the colourful fruit and vegetable market in San Camilo. Afterwards, a cooking show awaits you in the picantería „Tio Dario“, where you can experience the delicious Arequipeño specialities up close. In the afternoon, discover the impressive Sillar quarries made of volcanic stone and go on a short hike through the fascinating landscape.

A day to acclimatise to the altitude and time for your own explorations

Your journey continues to the impressive Colca Canyon. On the way there, you will pass through varied landscapes, encounter curious vicuñas and alpacas and cross a pass road at an altitude of 4,900 metres before reaching one of the deepest canyons in the world. The bottom of the gorge lies at 2,200 metres and the Colca River has carved its way for kilometres into the reddish rock, creating a unique backdrop. You will make several photo stops along the way. If you want to see the famous Andean condor, you should get up very early. The best opportunity to see this majestic bird is at the „Cruz del Condor“ viewpoint in the early hours of the morning. You then drive back to the hotel, stopping at particularly impressive places along the way to admire the spectacular cultivation terraces, which date back to pre-Inca times and are still in use today. Your experienced guide will explain the centuries-old terraces and the fascinating, almost otherworldly landscape. A short walk is also included. If you wish, he can also take you to the geysers, from where you can watch the boiling hot water from a safe distance - preferably early in the morning when the geysers are at their most active.

Experience an unforgettable excursion to the islands of Lake Titicaca, including Taquile Island and the famous floating islands of the Uros. Lake Titicaca, more than 15 times the size of Lake Constance, is the highest navigable lake in the world and reaches a depth of up to 280 metres. This enormous lake is rich in history and traditions, which the inhabitants still cherish today. The Peruvian city of Puno and the famous Sun Island on the Bolivian side are among the most interesting places to visit. On a boat trip across the lake, you will visit the floating islands of the Uros, which were once built as a defence against the Incas. After breakfast, check out and transfer to the railway station in Puno. You will then travel to Cuzco on PeruRail's 1st class Titicaca train. As you stroll through the narrow streets and the thick stone walls of the convents and monasteries with their shady patios, you can still hear the humming of the monks' choirs. In the past, life in the convents was characterised by contemplation and frugality, but today it is above all the peaceful atmosphere that remains. The enchanting architecture, in which blue accents vie for attention with the sky above Cuzco, casts a spell over visitors. In the morning, you will explore the city on a private city tour with a local German-speaking guide, including a visit to the Temple of the Sun and the cathedral. In the afternoon, a visit to the pisco museum awaits you, where you can even make your own pisco.

The morning is free for you to explore Cuzco on your own. At lunchtime, you will go on a private excursion with your guide to the Inca ruins in the surroundings of Cuzco, comfortably in a private car. On your return in the late afternoon, you will have the opportunity to stroll through San Blas, the lively artists' quarter high up in the Andes, which you should definitely visit.

Another highlight awaits you today: a visit to the legendary Inca fortress of Machu Picchu (UNESCO World Heritage Site) high up in the Andes. You will only be travelling with small 2-day luggage, the large luggage will remain at the hotel. Machu Picchu is an extraordinary city, the ruins of which still give a sense of its former power and fascination. You have the special fortune of staying here and experiencing the ruins almost to yourself at 6.00 a.m. at sunrise, while the mist and clouds slowly clear. Day tourists only reach the site later in the morning, so you have a time advantage. Entrance tickets and shuttle bus transfer are included, but a guide is not provided. In the early afternoon (approx. 2 p.m.), you will travel back to Ollantaytambo on the first-class Vistadome train and from there by private car with a German-speaking guide back to your hotel in Cuzco, where you will arrive in the evening.
