Fluffy young animals are always close to their parents, who take turns feeding them. You are there when they take their first steps! Join us on an incredible adventure to one of nature's most fascinating sights: a huge colony of around 28,000 emperor penguins in Antarctica. In the evening flight to Cape Town (flight duration approx. 12 hours) with Lufthansa.
Arrival in Cape Town in the morning and private transfer to the hotel. You will be staying at the One and Only Capetown directly on the Victoria & Alfred Waterfront with a view of the harbour and Table Mountain.
2 nights at the 5★ One & Only Cape Town – Details about the hotel
Table Mountain, the colourful Malay quarter of Cape Boo, Robben Island or an excursion to the Cape of Good Hope? The morning is at leisure. In the afternoon, you will meet up with your fellow travellers and the Whichaway Camp team for a safety briefing and to get to know each other. The camp staff will help you with last-minute preparations and inform you about the weather forecast for Antarctica.
You will travel across the mighty Southern Ocean in the comfort of a Gulfstream private jet or Airbus aircraft. During the five-hour flight, the African night becomes day as you soar over thousands of icebergs and soak up the 24-hour Antarctic sun. Destination: Wolf's Fang airstrip. White Desert's uniquely located camps are designed to be easily dismantled and removed, leaving no trace in the pristine environment. Once you arrive in Antarctica, a Basler BT-67 will take you to the luxury camp in Whichaway. It is located in the Schirmacher Oasis, an ice-free area with over 100 freshwater lakes. A collection of high-tech polar domes stand on a slippery surface on the shore of a frozen lake, very close to a 60 metre icefall.
You can organise the afternoon individually. In the camp, the rule is: anything goes, nothing must. Do as much or as little as you like, an experienced crew is always at your disposal.
6 nights at Whichaway Camp – Details about the hotel
It is one of the highlights of your stay at the end of the world: a visit to the king penguins in the eternal ice. The journey alone is an experience. You fly 2.5 hours across the Antarctic on the BT-67 and experience how the landscape changes again and again until you arrive at the emperor penguin colony in Atka Bay. Let your eyes wander over tens of thousands of animals close together, listen to their calls and take in this extraordinary scenery. Many newborns are still looking for their parents, adult penguins are busy gathering food and feeding. Most guests feel a deep sense of gratitude that you are one of the few people to be granted such an experience.
Plan each day according to your own wishes. There are many activities on offer at the camp, depending on your fitness level. Between rugged mountain ranges and spectacular frozen ice waves, you will experience wow moments like nowhere else on earth. You don't have to miss out on wellness either: There is no better place to relax, recharge your batteries and recover from the hustle and bustle of everyday life than in Antarctica. There are daily meditation and yoga sessions in the sauna and wellness pod.
Possible activities:
Mountaineering: Antarctica is truly the last place where thousands of peaks - up to 4,892 metres high - have not yet been climbed, many of them unnamed. Take the opportunity to climb a mountain that no one has ever climbed!
The plane takes you back to Cape Town. Take one last look at the ice and the mountains below you before the African heat envelops you again. After saying goodbye to the Whichaway crew, you can relax in your luxury hotel at the end of the day and reflect on your adventures and impressions at the end of the world.

Six high-tech dome tents are available for two guests each, on a gravelled plain by a small, frozen lake. The public areas include a lounge, library and dining pod. Enjoy gourmet meals in an international community around a round dining table, a sauna overlooking the glacier, cocktails by the fire and adventures such as visiting the South Pole, ice climbing, hiking over ice waves and meeting 28,000 emperor penguins. In the cosy lounge and library you can relax with new friends after an exciting day in the eternal ice.

A cosy warmth surrounds you in your sleeping pod with double bed. The washbasin and toilet are in the room, the shower is separate.
Culinary delights
Look forward to a hearty breakfast in the morning - the perfect preparation for the day's adventures. In the evening, the chefs conjure up a varied six-course menu every day, accompanied by the best South African wines.
Wellness
A massage in the Antarctic - no problem. Sauna with a glacier view - also available. The daily yoga and meditation programme will help you to calm down.
German citizens need a passport to enter South Africa, which must be valid for at least 30 days beyond the date of departure and have at least two free pages for visa stamps. If travelling on to neighbouring countries and then returning to South Africa, there must also be sufficient pages for stamps.
There are no vaccination requirements for direct entry from Germany. The Federal Foreign Office recommends the standard vaccinations according to the current vaccination calendar of the Robert Koch Institute for children and adults (see: www.rki.de) when travelling and complete them if necessary.

Due to its location in the southern hemisphere, the seasons in South Africa run in the opposite direction to those in Germany; spring begins in South Africa during the German autumn.
It is comparatively mild in the Schirmach Oasis in Antarctica: the average annual temperature is -10.4 °C with 350 hours of sunshine a year
