Best of Pantanal in Brazil

Nature trip with fascinating observations in the most animal-rich region of South America

To experience the impressive nature of the Pantanal, you need leisure to understand and time to internalise. The magnificent animal observations in the most animal-rich region of South America in south-west Brazil in the middle of the largest floodplain on earth, which is flooded by several rivers every year, are fascinating and unique. Grassy savannahs form in the dry season when the large rivers carry little or no water. Animals are concentrated at the waterholes, similar to those found in Africa, and are abundant. Various water birds, in particular different species of ibis, such as white-necked ibis, brow-banded ibis, cayenne ibis, herons, wood storks and the large jabirus, fascinating hyacinth macaws, the largest parrots in South America, monk parakeets and countless caimans can be found here and offer opportunities to be observed. Of course, you also have the best opportunities to see the mammals of the Pantanal if you are lucky: Lowland tapirs, capybaras, giant otters, maned wolves, swamp deer, pampas deer, coatis, the great anteaters, black howler monkeys, crested capuchin monkeys, tamandua or small anteaters and the shy big cats such as jaguars and ocelots. On this intensive nature expedition trip, the focus is on experiencing nature, and the quality of the lodges is very basic but acceptable and offers the best that is available locally. Various tours on this nature trip take place off-road in converted off-road vehicles and in smaller, simple boats, which are equipped with radios and are always accompanied by experienced guides.

"Nowhere else in South America can you get as close to the continent's small and large wildlife as in the Pantanal in Brazil. The Big Five can also be seen here, just like in Africa. However, South America is home to jaguars, maned wolves, large anteaters, giant otters and lowland tapirs. The hyacinth macaws, the largest parrots in America, are also incomparably fascinating. The Pantanal stands for animal observation par excellence in America and offers reasonable, albeit simple lodges, always right next to the action."
