Amankila, the resort's name, means "peaceful hill", but the name is a little modest - the resort is located on a stunning hill on Bali's east coast, with ancient, spiritual and royal neighbours here at the historic Karangasem Regency. The richly formal Balinese culture sets design details everywhere: recurring motifs reference the ruins of the nearby water palace in Ujun, for example, and a three-tiered infinity pool spills down the hillside like a rice paddy. The suites with thatched roofs stand on stilts that can be seen directly above the treetops. Beautifully decorated with parasols and furniture made of mother-of-pearl and coconut shells, they invite you to linger. A series of paths lined with frangipani connect the buildings of the accommodation, which were designed by architect Ed Tuttle.
Room
The Amankila suites are built on stilts to maximise the sea view. Ideally positioned on a green hillside against the dramatic backdrop of Mount Agung, overlooking the shimmering blue of the Straits of Lombok and the exclusive private beach. The elegant suites offer you exceptional privacy in a spacious 94 square metres of living space and an expansive terrace.
Gastronomy
The Amankila restaurant with its marvellous sea view focuses on ingredients from the region. Traditional local cooking techniques are combined with modern culinary styles to satisfy even the most discerning gourmet. Ducks are reared on the resort's open-air farm in the village of Jasri, herbs are grown in the Amankila garden and cold smoked in the smokehouse. Whether vegetables or exotic fruits - everything thrives on the rich volcanic soil at the foot of Mount Agung: natural, splendid and healthy. Local fishing boats deliver fresh fish from the surrounding seas every day, suckling pigs are reared on site and the Indonesian Tokusen Wagyu beef is of the best international quality. Gourmets are sure to get their money's worth here.
Or how about a private candlelit dinner in a truly romantic setting? Your personal service duo of chef and waiter will fulfil all your culinary wishes, in the beach club, the pool area or on the beach, where a campfire can be lit for dinner under the stars.
Wellness, Spa, Sport
The spa's traditional Balinese baths, scrubs and wraps are complemented by open-air treatments under the shady palm trees.
The spa's therapies are based on the energy teachings of East Bali and aim to completely relax you so that you can fully enjoy the moment. Natural ingredients are used in traditional Balinese baths, scrubs and wraps. You can choose to experience these in the privacy of the guest suites, in the massage pavilions, on the beach or in a secluded open-air location under a tropical canopy.
Holistically trained practitioners offer treatments ranging from hypnotherapy to Reiki. Healers trained to facilitate deep transformations use a variety of soothing methods to help you relax and heal.
Amankila's speciality is the Cinta therapy for individuals and couples. First, a full body scrub cleanses and purifies before a warm bath with rose and flower essences opens the chakra. Finally, an aromatherapy body massage gives you a feeling of harmony.
