The retreat combines traditional and modern elements. Lush gardens with sculptures, pools and elegant thatched villas stretch out behind a living cactus boma. Segera Retreat is a green oasis in the middle of the golden savannah. Characterised by the true ranching tradition of Kenya and set against the backdrop of Mount Kenya, it combines conservation, community, culture and commerce in a luxurious environment.
The Retreat offers exquisite culinary experiences with African-sourced wines and dining in herb-scented rooms overlooking the savannah. The Paddock House is a gathering place for dining and relaxing, while the Stables Lounge offers a pre-dinner cocktail venue with the option of sampling the signature Segera Dawa with fresh mint, lemongrass and lime.
The Segera Spa offers botanically inspired treatments. Guests can choose from a variety of experiences, including a Rasul, botanical baths and traditional massages.
Guests can take part in daily game drives in open safari vehicles, go on art tours through one of the world's largest contemporary African art collections, visit the local market or spend the night in the Nay Palad bird's nest.
The five garden villas at Segera Retreat are a true paradise for nature lovers. Surrounded by botanically landscaped gardens and centred around a spacious swimming pool, these villas offer an oasis of tranquillity. They are surrounded by a cactus wall that provides security and allows guests to roam freely day and night. Each villa is perched high on stilts and offers breathtaking views over savannahs and forests to the waterholes and salt licks that attract wildlife. The design is inspired by the colours and textures of the surrounding landscape and features outdoor bathrooms, ensuite bathrooms and private decks.
The farmhouse, once the original ranch house, retains its historic charm yet offers modern luxury. With three bedrooms and three bathrooms, it offers ample space for families or groups. The home features a spacious master suite and two charming double bedrooms that open up to a large outdoor lounge and private pool. An additional single room is ideal for an au pair or teenager. Communal areas such as the fire-lit living room and the two open-plan dining areas make the house the perfect choice for families or guests seeking privacy.
The garden house, surrounded by climbing bougainvillea, cactus and lush greenery, offers a secluded, romantic atmosphere. The large windows and glazed doors allow the views of the garden to flow into the house. The master bedroom has a Juliette balcony that opens into the foliage, while a refreshing saltwater pool is just a short walk away. This two-storey home features two bedrooms, a gorgeous kitchen, a double parlour and an impressive outdoor stone bath.
With its numerous windows, the greenhouse offers a light-flooded space that is reflected by the surrounding gardens. With tropical potted plants and succulents, it offers the feeling of the outside coming inside. Two bedrooms with elegant ensuite bathrooms offer glimpses of the wild foothills below Mount Kenya.
Villa Segera is unique in its structure with two master suites in two separate buildings connected by a walkway. Both bedrooms share a private pool, elegant open-plan dining area and lounge. Guests can also dine al fresco under a vine-covered canopy while enjoying the view.
Segera House welcomes guests with decorative Zanzibari doors leading into a large entrance hall. Here, three large master suites combine with a double-height communal living room. A private pool and outdoor dining area complete the luxurious experience. The home features vibrant colour accents, artwork and rugged textures.
German nationals require a passport to enter the country. This must be valid for six months beyond the date of return.
Since January 2024, all travellers require an "Electronic Travel Authorisation" (so-called "eTA"; since the introduction of the eTA, a visa is no longer required) to enter Kenya. The application is made online and can be submitted at the earliest three months before departure, but no later than 72 hours before departure. The "eTA" does not automatically authorise entry - this is at the discretion of the border officials upon entry. Further information in German can be found at Kenyan Embassy. (e)Visas already issued remain valid until the end of the journey.
Kenya's climate is relatively stable throughout the year, meaning that the country can be travelled to all year round. The so-called dry seasons range from around December to March and mid-June to October. There are regional differences. There are a total of two rainy seasons per year, the major rainy season lasts from around April to mid-June, the minor rainy season from around October to November with heavy short downpours. The coastal region in the east borders on the Indian Ocean, bathing is possible here all year round, only in the months of April and May the weather conditions on the coast are not ideal. The Masai Mara region is known for its migration. During the months of July to September, there is a particularly good chance of experiencing the great animal migration here. The timing of the migration depends on the annual rainfall and is therefore subject to major fluctuations.
