The main attraction is undoubtedly the tracking of gorillas and other wild animals in their natural environment. In addition to these impressive animal encounters, you can also take part in river cruises, watch birds, enjoy the starry sky and lose yourself in the unspoilt surroundings. You can also go exploring in the area around the lodges, discover the local culture and life on the river or simply enjoy the peace and seclusion of the rainforest.
Hidden in a dense, almost inaccessible forest, Ngaga is one of the most remarkable lodges in Africa. It offers the rare opportunity to visit gorillas in a habitat barely touched by humans.
The lodge has just six thatched bungalows hidden among the trees. Each bungalow offers a breathtaking view of the surrounding forest.
Each bungalow has an en-suite bathroom with hot shower and flush toilet, beds with mosquito nets and wrap-around decks overlooking the forest. The netted windows provide a steady breeze and let you fall asleep to the sounds of birds, frogs, monkeys and insects.
A viewing deck built into the tall trees provides a place to watch monkeys and birds while you enjoy your morning coffee. The open-plan lounge and dining area is the place for delicious meals and relaxed gatherings amidst the sounds of the forest.
Entry is possible for German nationals with a passport. An identity card is not valid. The travel documents must be valid for at least six months after the intended date of departure.
German citizens require an entry visa. Since 1 July 2016, visas can only be obtained online on the website visas.immigration.go.ug must be applied for. Scanned copies of passports, passport photos, proof of yellow fever immunisation and, if necessary, other documents must be uploaded. Once the procedure has been completed, the visa will be issued on presentation of the passport and original documents and payment of the visa fee (cash, in US dollars or local currency) on entry.
The visa fee - currently 50 US dollars for a simple tourist visa - depends on the type of visa and is displayed during the application process.

Proof of a yellow fever vaccination for all travellers aged 9 months or older is required upon entry and is also medically advisable due to the recurring outbreaks. Malaria prophylaxis with medication is also strongly recommended. Talk to a tropical or travel medicine specialist about this. The Federal Foreign Office also recommends checking and completing the standard vaccinations according to the current vaccination calendar of the Robert Koch Institute when travelling.
Typical of the rainforest, the Congo is warm and very humid all year round. The rainy season lasts from April to October in the north and from November to March in the south. The dry season occurs in the north between December and February and in the south between May and September. The average temperature here is between 20-25°C.
