German nationals require a passport to enter the country. This must be valid for six months beyond the date of return.
Since January 2024, all travellers require an "Electronic Travel Authorisation" (so-called "eTA"; since the introduction of the eTA, a visa is no longer required) to enter Kenya. The application is made online and can be submitted at the earliest three months before departure, but no later than 72 hours before departure. Kenya's climate is relatively stable throughout the year, meaning that the country can be travelled to all year round. The so-called dry seasons range from around December to March and mid-June to October. There are regional differences. There are a total of two rainy seasons per year, the major rainy season lasts from around April to mid-June, the minor rainy season from around October to November with heavy short downpours. The coastal region in the east borders on the Indian Ocean, bathing is possible here all year round, only in the months of April and May the weather conditions on the coast are not ideal. The Masai Mara region is known for its migration. During the months of July to September, there is a particularly good chance of experiencing the great animal migration here. The timing of the migration depends on the annual rainfall and is therefore subject to major fluctuations.
