Kemi is located on the Gulf of Bothnia, about 30 kilometres from the Swedish border. The harbour plays a central role in Finnish trade, especially for the export of raw materials and products from the paper and forestry industries. In winter, temperatures drop well below freezing and the city is covered in a thick blanket of snow.
Close to the Arctic Circle, you can feel the cold of the Arctic here: Kemi is one of the few places in the world where the sea freezes over completely in winter. Several icebreakers are deployed to keep the shipping routes open during the cold season. You can experience winter in its original form particularly intensively around Kemi: explore snow-covered forests or frozen lakes and rivers on a variety of winter adventures. If the nights are clear, there is a good chance of seeing the Northern Lights around Kemi.

The Kiel Canal, also known as the Kiel Canal, is an impressive waterway that connects the North Sea with the Baltic Sea. It was opened in 1895 and stretches over a length of around 98 kilometres. The canal allows large cargo ships and passenger ships to avoid the dangerous journey around Scandinavia, saving time and money.
More than 30,000 ships pass through the canal every year, making it one of the busiest waterways in the world. The imposing lock systems and the scenic surroundings make a trip along the canal a fascinating experience.
After the ship has arrived back in Hamburg harbour, you will leave the HANSEATIC nature and embark on your journey home or extend your trip in the beautiful Hanseatic city.
