After your arrival with a midday flight at Iquitos International Airport, you will be warmly welcomed by the crew. Enjoy a private drive to the city centre of Iquitos, where a panoramic city tour and a welcome lunch await you. You will then be transferred to the harbour of Nauta for embarkation. Settle into your spacious suite and embark on one of the greatest adventures of your life. After an introduction by the naturalist guides and a routine safety drill, meet in the restaurant for your first of many Amazonian gourmet experiences created by Aria Amazon's renowned chef Pedro Miguel Schiaffino.
You'll start the day searching for incredible wildlife along the Ucayali River, including parrots, herons, falcons and monkeys. After breakfast, you can choose to fish for the Amazon's notoriously voracious piranhas, canoe, kayak or swim in the black waters of Lake Clavero, or visit an Amazonian village where you can interact with the indigenous ribereños (people of the river). After dinner, take a leisurely evening walk in the flood forest of San Jose de Paranapura.
As the day begins, embark on a morning wildlife excursion on the extraordinary Amazon River. After breakfast, explore the Tahuayo River, a blackwater tributary of the Amazon, while the nature guides tell stories about Amazonia. After lunch, take a jungle walk in the forest of San Pedro or Puerto Prado to learn more about the flora and fauna of the Amazon. At dusk, you will explore the Amazon River in search of exotic nocturnal wildlife.
In the morning, visit the local fresh market with your guides, who will be able to identify the catch of the day from the Amazon fishermen as well as the exotic fruits of the region. After breakfast, take a short boat trip along the Marañon River, where you will have the opportunity to visit a group of Amazonian artisans and learn the art of weaving palm fibres as it is traditionally done in the Peruvian Amazon.
In the afternoon, you will visit a beekeeper in the community of San Francisco before setting off on small boats to one of the great spectacles of the southern hemisphere, the birthplace of the Amazon River. In the evening, you will meet the new passengers who have signed up for the four-day trip as your journey along the Marañon River begins.
Start the day early with a birdwatching tour along the Marañon River. After breakfast, explore the black waters of the Yanayacu Pucate River with the possibility of seeing sloths, great egrets, parrots and taricaya turtles. Visit an Amazonian village to see a demonstration of the Aguaje palm harvest.
After lunch, you will go on a piranha fishing trip in small boats. Finally, you will travel along the Yanayaquillo River at night in search of nocturnal wildlife under a star-studded sky.
The rewards for an early start to the day today are numerous, including a picnic lunch in the shade of the Amazon accompanied by the symphony of the jungle. Go fishing along the black waters of the Samiria River and choose to go for a jungle walk, canoeing, kayaking or swimming in the Pacaya Samiria National Reserve.
Later, you will cruise along the Ucayali River and enjoy the sunset.
After breakfast, set off on a morning boat excursion on the Marañon River. Don't forget to bring your binoculars as you try to spot sloths and birds along this majestic river. In the afternoon, you will travel along the river to Puerto Prado, an indigenous village, where you will have the opportunity to see giant water lilies.
In the morning, take a guided tour to the local market and marvel at the regional products of the Peruvian Amazon.
Return to the Aria Amazon for breakfast before disembarking. On the way to the airport, visit the Manatee Rescue Centre, where orphaned Amazonian manatees are rehabilitated before being released back into the wild.

Get to know the river of rivers, the wild Amazon, the culinary way. "Taste" the Amazon with the five-star cuisine of chef Pedro Miguel Schiaffino. Peruvian-born Pedro Miguel Schiaffino is known for being one of the first gourmets in his country to make local cuisine internationally famous by combining the best of Peru's regional flavours. He has been a partner of Aqua Expeditions as Consulting Chef on board the Aria Amazon since 2007 and is responsible for the menu on board and the culinary experience.
Small but nice is the motto on board the Aria Amazon. A maximum of 32 passengers in 16 fully air-conditioned luxury viewing cabins with a view of the river are looked after individually with a 1:1 ratio of guests to 31 crew members.

The best way to pamper yourself after an eventful day is with a soothing massage performed by the experienced therapists on board. Or cool off in the whirlpool while you relax with a view of the river, cocktail in hand if you like.
On-board activities:
Outside of the numerous daily excursions, you can relax on the ship's observation deck and watch the wildlife under the open sky above the Amazon. Amazon sunsets and sunrises in the "mirrored forest" of the Pacaya Samiria National Park have twice the visual impact as they are reflected by the "black water" of the Amazon. The viewing platform is therefore the ideal place for many extraordinary photos.
If you want to retreat, the indoor lounge is the place to do it. Air-conditioned with plenty of natural light, soft deep sofas, soothing hardwood décor and a well-stocked bar as the centrepiece, this is arguably one of the best places in Peru to sip a pisco sour. Or treat yourself to an afternoon siesta in the outdoor lounge amidst the sounds of the rainforest.
German citizens require a passport that must be valid for six months from the date of entry. Tourists can stay in Peru for 90 days every six months without a visa.
There are no vaccination requirements for Peru. However, the World Health Organisation recommends that all travellers over the age of 9 months are vaccinated against yellow fever in good time, i.e. at least 10 days before entering the country. This applies in particular to travel to the designated yellow fever endemic areas of Peru, such as the entire Peruvian Amazon region and the areas east of the Andes below 2,300 metres. The Federal Foreign Office also recommends checking and completing the standard vaccinations according to the current vaccination calendar of the Robert Koch Institute for children and adults when travelling ( http://www.rki.de )
Peru lies in three landscape zones, each with its own climatic characteristics:
The "Costa", the smallest coastal region in terms of area, is very dry and agriculture is often only possible in river oases. The capital Lima and the Atacama Desert, the driest desert in the world, are also located in this region. Temperatures in the Costa vary between 12 °C in winter and 35 °C in summer.
In the highlands of the Andes, known as the "Sierra", the average temperature at 3,300 metres is only around 11 °C all year round. From October to April, heavy rainfall can occur in this region, which tends to have little rainfall. Cusco and the Inca ruins of Machu Picchu are located in the Sierra.
The "Selva" rainforest region to the east of the Andes makes up the largest part of Peru at around 60 per cent. The Peruvian rainforest is dense and almost impenetrable, with rivers being the only arteries. The average annual temperature in this region is 26 °C and the annual precipitation reaches up to 3,800 mm. The transition from the sierra is smooth, as there is a tropical mountain forest with a milder climate. Peru's largest nature reserve, Pacaya-Samiria, is located in the Selva.
