It was here that the American polar explorer Robert Peary discovered fragments of one of the largest meteorites discovered to date at the end of the 19th century. He brought it to the United States and sold it to a New York museum, where it can still be seen today. Despite doubts about his heroic deeds and his often criticised attitude towards the Inuit population, a monument was erected in Robert Peary's honour at Cape York. The monument, erected in the 1930s, still stands today.

The ship glides gently through the waters of the west coast of Greenland and enters the Evighedsfjorden a few kilometres south of Kangerlussuaq. Evighedsfjorden, "the fjord of eternity", bears its name for good reason: once you think you have reached the end of this more than 100 kilometre-long inlet, it seems to stretch into infinity, almost as if it wants to increase the enjoyment of its many visitors. The spectacular landscape is characterised by glaciers, flower-covered tundra and jagged rocks, where numerous bird species find shelter. Take time to observe the sea eagles, the polar gull colonies and the kittiwakes gliding in the wind.

From 1941 to 1992, the town of Kangerlussuaq in Greenland was home to an American military base. Today, its international airport makes the city a popular destination for tourists seeking adventure in the Far North. Located north of the Arctic Circle, the city is a starting point for wonderful discoveries in the wilderness. Just a few dozen kilometres away, you can discover the Greenland Ice Sheet, the largest ice formation in the northern hemisphere. From Kangerlussuaq you can also observe the beautiful tundra landscape in autumn colours, home to Arctic hares, Arctic foxes, reindeer, falcons and eagles.
