After breakfast, another city tour with your private guide. Today you will be guided through the cultural heritage of the Upper Town. It houses the Croatian Museum of Tourism. Parts of the Church of St James date back to the 16th century.
The afternoon invites you to relax and explore further on your own. Our tip: take a walk along the waterfront promenade to get into the right mood. "Lungamare", the promenade, was laid out over a hundred years ago, with numerous beautiful terraces lining the way, accompanied by inviting cafés and restaurants. You can also take a stroll along the Marsala Tita. The town's boulevard with its luxurious villas, elegant shops, restaurants, cafés and hotels offers a glimpse into the exclusivity of the seaside resort. Villa Angiolina, once a typical merchant's villa, is nestled in the enchanting park. The park delights with its exotic plants, such as bamboo, eucalyptus, sequoias, wonderfully fragrant flowering camellias, lemons and giant magnolias.
The 19th century parish church of Sveta Marija with its wooden dome and colourful stained glass windows is also worth a visit. And you should also see the "Greeting to the Sea", which stands on a rock in the sea, a charming bronze figure of a girl holding a dove.

Rijeka is the Croatian harbour city on the Kvarner Bay in the northern Adriatic. It is considered the gateway to the islands of Croatia. The main promenade Korzo is lined with buildings from the Habsburg era. The nearby Croatian National Theatre Ivan pl. Zajc National Theatre dates back to the 19th century and features ceiling paintings by Gustav Klimt. The nearby Rijeka City Museum offers an exhibition of fine art and a collection of musical instruments. The Cathedral of St Vitus, a round baroque building, dates back to the 17th century. The Trsat castle complex, which is situated on a hill and includes a religious site, offers a sweeping view of the islands of Kvarner Bay. No better place to end our tour. After breakfast, continue through the hinterland to the UNESCO World Heritage Site Plitvice Lakes National Park.
This national park is almost 300 km² in size, a forest reserve with 16 cascading lakes connected by waterfalls and extending into a limestone gorge. Various walking and hiking trails run along the shore or across the water. An electrically operated ferry connects the 12 upper lakes with the 4 lower lakes. The lower lake area is also home to Veliki Slap, a 78 metre high waterfall, the largest waterfall in Croatia. In the afternoon, walk and discover the national park. You will stay close to the entrance to the national park.

The fortress-like complex of Diocletian's Palace in the centre was built in the 4th century by the Roman Emperor Diocletian. Once consisting of thousands of structures, the ruins still contain more than 200 buildings today. Away from the noise of the traffic, you will visit the complex, once the retirement home of the Roman Emperor Diocletian. Then head to the Cathedral of St Domnius with its particularly beautiful column decoration. The bell tower was added much later and is accessible. From the top you have a marvellous panoramic view of the city.
In the afternoon, take a stroll along the Riva promenade and enjoy the gentle sea breeze and the rustling of the palm trees, perhaps taking a break in one of the cafés. Perhaps you would like to visit the Ivan Meštrović Gallery? You can view his monumental sculptures in the artist's former summer villa.
