Svart Glacier Hotel is the most sustainable hotel in the world, with a 360° view of the Svartisen Glacier and the Arctic nature. Svart is the first hotel in the world to be built to the energy-positive Powerhouse standard and is located above the Arctic Circle. Its circular shape stretches from the shoreline at the foot of the Svartisen glacier to the clear waters of the Arctic fjord. Svartisen is Norway's second largest glacier and covers an area of 370 square kilometres.

Set against the stunning panorama of Norway's Svartisen Glacier, the hotel designed by architectural firm Snøhetta also impresses with its sensational appearance.

The A-shaped wooden structure is reminiscent of 'Fiskehjell', a special device for drying fish, and thus blends harmoniously into nature.

Only 46 chic rooms and suites are available, decorated in Art Nouveau style. All have a luxurious bathroom, a king-size or double bed, desk, minibar, free Wi-Fi; there are rooms with a sea view.

Standard double room:

Junior suites:

Manshausen, a modest 14 hectares in size, is situated on the Grøtøyleia strait. On the other side of the water, just half a kilometre away, lies the village of Nordskot. Manshausen has a sheltered harbour and was once part of the old trading post of Grøtøya, whose history dates back to 1698.

The fishing is still excellent. Visitors also enjoy kayaking, diving, cycling, walks, summit hikes and rock climbing.

Every season offers something different. The picturesque Steigen is dotted with hundreds of islands and islets, white sandy beaches and spectacular mountains.

To the north-west lies the majestic Lofoten island chain, whose jagged peaks rise up like a rampart.

Enjoy a stay in the architecturally award-winning Sea Cabins. These are designed to make your Manshausen experience something very special.

Each cabin is designed for sophisticated simplicity while enhancing your intimate connection with the surrounding nature, sea and light.

The island offers tranquillity and a variety of activities. You choose your exact mix of relaxation and adventure: reading a good book in your Sea Cabin, kayaking or fishing in the nearby waters, bird watching, a glacier walk on the mainland, hiking or climbing, or immersing yourself in the cultural heritage of the region.

Room
There are 14 buildings on Manshausen. Seven of them are the Sea Cabins. Each cabin has its own unobstructed view through large, floor-to-ceiling windows, enhancing your scenic experience. But there are no televisions. Minimalism that strives for efficiency and perfection. Everything must be as utilitarian and multifunctional as possible; drawers become benches, shelves become tables. Comfort is important, the superfluous is left out. There is a private bathroom with WC in every cabin.

Your Sea Cabin is your refuge for a break from everyday life. The huge panoramic windows give you a great connection with the surrounding landscape. Comfortable chairs, beds with warm duvets, the sound of the wind and the waves right under your feet.

There is also the main house (Hovedhuset), with the restaurant and library. Other facilities on the island include a whirlpool and sauna, living quarters for the Manshausen host couple and a service building.

Gastronomy
The ingredients used are as far as possible from the region. The menu varies and offers high quality in every dish. All meals - breakfast, lunch and dinner - are served in the restaurant in the main building. You are welcome here at any time, whether for coffee and a chat, or for a festive dinner, and perhaps a drink in the library before or after. Mingle with the guests, sit at the long Manshausen table or enjoy the intimacy of a table for two.

Wellness & Activities
The specially designed sauna mirrors that of the Sea Cabin. Like your cabin, it has a large window that makes you feel at one with the surrounding landscape. If you want to cool off, simply dip into the seawater pond. At night and in the winter darkness, underwater lights are switched on to create a magical atmosphere! There are also changing rooms, outdoor showers and a hot tub in the immediate vicinity.

Of course, the undisturbed sky beckons for aurora viewing from October to March. Nature is the treasure here and provides the stage for a variety of outdoor activities: kayaking, hiking, cultural immersion, boat tours, sea eagle watching, cave tours, the Nordskot Traverse and much more.

These impressive new holiday homes in western Norway offer absolute seclusion, tranquillity, spectacular design and sustainability. The views alone make you never want to leave these cabins on stilts and the word nesting takes on a whole new meaning.

You should have a head for heights for the luxury chalets at The Bolder Sky Lodge. The view from the Sky Lodge of the Lysefjord in Norway, 600 metres below, is breathtaking, but not for the faint-hearted. The furnishings are both spartan and luxurious. There is no television, which is replaced by the large panoramic window.

There are only 2 (!) of these stilt houses, which blend in perfectly with the unspoilt natural surroundings. They offer a breathtaking, unobstructed view over the Lysefjord and the mountains, which are covered in snow in winter.

The Lysefjord, Norway's southernmost fjord, is lined with mountains up to 1,000 metres high and offers the attraction par excellence: the majestic Preikestolen rock plateau, one of the most photographed and spectacular natural monuments in the world.

Room
The stilt houses are situated on a cliff with an unobstructed view over the fjord and barely touch the ground; it seems as if they are floating. The houses have a modern design and are made of wood.

The furniture and chairs were also designed and manufactured in Norway.
Up to four guests can be accommodated in the two double bedrooms, the dining room with adjoining designer kitchen and the bathroom. High-quality fabrics and materials also create a beautiful ambience.

Whether lying in bed in the morning, taking a shower or enjoying a glass of red wine at sunset in the evening: the endless view over the fjord landscape is posed in front of every room.

The Arctic Hideaway is an architecturally stunning collection of five individual, eco-friendly cabins on the remote Norwegian island of Sørværet, your own little island for your stay in the Fleinvaer archipelago in the Arctic Circle in the Norwegian archipelago.

The Arctic Hideaway was conceived by jazz musician and composer Håvard Lund and designed by local Norwegian architecture firm Fordypningsrommet. It consists of several cabins on the edge of a tiny private island in the Fleinvær archipelago deep in the Arctic Circle in northern Norway.

The unique hideaway can only be rented as an entire complex, in which case the whole island is yours for 100 %.

This means that the kitchen, studio, bathrooms, sauna and all five cabins (with up to ten beds) are your private area and only the concierge will be around.

Welcome to Snowhotel Kirkenes, the famous igloo snow hotel in Norway.

The Snowhotel is the northernmost snow hotel in the world, offering exclusive Northern Lights viewing from the chalets and a wide range of fascinating winter safaris and summer activities such as king crab fishing.

The snow hotel is perfectly connected to Hurtigruten and flights to Kirkenes. Every year, unique snow igloos and an impressive reception area are created from ice and snow in winter with great attention to detail by famous artists.

Location:
Kirkenes Snowhotel is 8.4 km from the Kirkenes Hurtigruten ferry terminal and 6 km from Kirkenes Airport, Høybuktmoen. The Bøkfjord is 500 metres away.

Room
Igloo snow room:
You will spend the night in the artfully designed snow rooms. The snow-themed snow suites are only available in winter and feature elaborate snow sculptures, thermal duvets and thermal sleeping bags to keep you warm at night.

The shared bathroom is located in a nearby service building. The tube of the snow and ice area leads into a "warm house" with a very original architectural design. This houses the first-class restaurant and the changing rooms.

Gamme Cabin:
If you wish, you can stay in one of the "Gamme Cabins".
The air-conditioned wooden cottages are available all year round and are architecturally inspired by traditional Sami hunting and fishing cabins. They have large windows with mountain views, deckchairs and a private bathroom.

The round, luxuriously furnished Panorama Chalets are located slightly above the resort. From there you have a direct view of the northern starry sky through a large glass front. An unforgettable spectacle if you are lucky enough to see the magical Northern Lights in the sky in front of you while you lie in your cosy, warm bed, private and undisturbed.

The Norwegian luxury house offers space for a maximum of 16 guests in 8 different bedrooms with en-suite bathrooms. The rooms are very cosy and all approximately 13-14 square metres in size. They are located on the ground floor or first floor and differ, apart from the location, in the view: there is either a fjord view or a mountain view.

Gastronomy
The chefs are really passionate about what they do. They love their job and live it with passion. Nordic cuisine is the cuisine here. The main ingredients are sourced locally and are some of the freshest you can find. Outside the kitchen, the chefs forage for local herbs, mushrooms and mountain plants that not only bring exquisite flavours to the dishes, but also promote Arctic health and balance in your diet.

Rorbu houses:
All original or newly built rorbu houses are cosy and comfortable. They each have one to three double rooms, a well-equipped kitchen and one or more bathrooms with shower and toilet.

All 38 original and newly built houses are of a very high standard, but still simple and not luxurious. All the houses are well insulated and open all year round. Great care has been taken to preserve the authenticity of the houses. The traditional craftsmanship and wood have been retained to give a feeling of what "rorbu life" was like for the fishermen in earlier times.

Rorbu suites:
Houses by the sea for up to 8 people with 2 floors. The beautiful location in Svolvær harbour gives you a great view and makes you feel close to the town, the sea and the surrounding mountains. The houses by the sea are of a very high standard, with good beds and plenty of space. Each has its own terrace on the quay where you can enjoy your morning coffee or a cold drink in the evening sun. The Seaside Lodges have 2, 3 or 4 bedrooms, 2 bathrooms, a fully equipped kitchen, a dining room and a living room.

Historic houses:
Original, original houses that are part of the Manor House and have been beautifully renovated. There are different houses, depending on location and size.
The old manor house, Manor, was built in 1828.
Summer, winter, autumn and spring - the manor house on the island of Svinøya has survived all seasons since 1828. The almost 200-year-old main building is now available for overnight stays and functions as the real "jewel in the crown" of Svinøya Rorbuer.

Vestfjord Apartments:
These are beautifully situated on the edge of a headland on Svinøya. 300 metres from the main building with reception and restaurant Børsen Spiseri. The building has 6 units with a total of 16 beds. There is free parking right outside the door. Wonderful sea and mountain views over the Vestfjord and a large shared veranda where you can enjoy the evening sun. The flats on the second floor have their own balconies. In the building you will find: 2 two-bedroom flats, 1 one-bedroom flat, 2 double rooms and 1 studio flat (without sea view).

Gastronomy
Børsen Spiseri is one of the most renowned restaurants in Lofoten. Here you are served specialities of Nordic cuisine with the freshest ingredients from the Lofoten region.

Basecamp Hotel Spitsbergen:
In the centre of Longyearbyen is the home of the modern Arctic trapper. The hotel is furnished in authentic trapper style down to the smallest detail, and the staff will look after you personally. The glass-roofed cognac loft is a great place to relax and watch the Northern Lights in winter.

The interior of the Basecamp Hotel is decorated with driftwood, sealskins, maps, pictures and artefacts depicting the past and present of life in the Arctic.

The rooms are all different, with comfortable beds, private bathrooms but no television.

Room
The Basecamp Hotel has 16 rooms and can accommodate more than 40 people. No two rooms are the same. All rooms have comfortable beds and private bathrooms with showers. The double rooms are equipped with either two single beds or one double bed. Triple rooms have bunk beds in true trapper style. Double beds are only available on request. Two of the rooms in the Basecamp Hotel are suites, with a separate bedroom, living room and bathroom. From all rooms you have a beautiful view over the town and the mountains surrounding the valley of Longyearbyen.

Isfjord Radio Adventure Hotel:
The adventure hotel Isfjord Radio is a lonely outpost far from civilisation, with no road connection. In winter, you arrive with dogs or snowmobiles after gliding over the glaciers and mountains. In summer by crossing the Arctic Ocean on a boat safari. Built in 1933, the radio station looks rough from the outside, but when you enter you will be surprised by a progressive hotel with a modern and welcoming interior. During your stay, you can choose from a selection of guided adventure tours.

Nordenskiöld Lodge:
The lodge is nestled in the glacial moraine at the foot of the mighty Nordenskiöld Glacier, far off the beaten track in the remote wilderness of Spitsbergen. Enjoy a much-needed digital detox combined with spectacular adventures far from civilisation. Explore the humpbacked moraine on foot, strap on your crampons for a glacier hike and paddle along the glacier front while observing the abundant wildlife. There is no running water or electricity. Wood is used to heat the hut and sauna, and drinking water is obtained from the melting ice of the glacier. Listen to the glacier as it speaks with cracking noises, loud roars, whispers and breaking pieces of ice from the glacier front. During your stay, you can choose from a selection of guided adventure tours.

Trappers Staion:
One night with 100 huskies! This is the home of a trapper, where 100 Alaskan huskies live. You will see and learn what it was like to be a trapper in the old days, and you can spend the night in a wooden teepee hut. Reindeer skins, warm sleeping bags, fire in the stove and howling dogs outside - this is the real Trapper's Station as it was in the old days. Trapper's Station offers unique options for accommodation and catering, all in expedition style.

Trapper's Station also has a second station where employees can sleep. Many trappers used to have several secondary stations a few days' walk from their main station, which they used on their hunting trips to seek shelter from the harsh weather.

North Pole Camp:
The location of this mobile tent camp is changed during the season and from year to year. There is a new experience here every time, even for the frequent traveller. After a day of travelling like a polar explorer, arriving at the North Pole camp for a celebratory dinner, a few drinks and storytelling will be an experience far removed from the ordinary.
The North Pole Camp offers modern camping in the Arctic wilderness. Learn to appreciate the little things that are normally taken for granted: Heated tents, camp beds and warm sleeping bags.

In winter, you can reach the North Pole camp by dog sled or snowmobile. Although the tents are heated at night and in the morning, the experience can be cold.

After a snowy ride on a snowmobile or dog sled, it's nice to arrive at North Pole Camp. In the guest tents there is an entrance room where you can hang up your snowmobile suit and store your boots. The dining tent has a large table where you can eat dinner together. Enjoy a few drinks and recap your own day of polar travel. The tents have a modern heating system and are warmed up in the evenings and mornings to make camp life in the Arctic more comfortable.

The well-known Danish architecture firm Friis & Moltke A/S designed the Hotel Føroyar, which opened in May 1983. The aim of the architects was to design a building that would adapt specifically to the site and the landscape.

Its long lines in the landscape characterise Hotel Føroyar from the outside. The building is part of the surrounding nature, as if it had been chiselled into the rocks, except that the rocks now appear as glass that shimmers in the light.

Inside the main building of Hotel Føroyar, there is an ever-changing interplay of light and shadow, between long dark corridors and bright, friendly rooms.

The natural lawn on the roof of this quietly located design hotel harmonises perfectly with the green surroundings.

The small, charming country hotel 29.2 Aurland is located on the legendary sea trout fishing river Aurland and close to the fjord of the same name, surrounded by a beautiful mountain landscape.

29.2 Aurland is a real tip, perfectly located near Flam, the fjord and close to the breathtaking Snow Road. This beautifully furnished, family-run house offers a warm and authentic Norwegian welcome.

Once located on the main route connecting eastern and western Norway, farm 29.2 Aurland has been providing food and hospitality to travellers and anglers since Viking times. Guests can see the initials of the old drovers engraved on the wooden walls of the "fish house". Today, the former family farm has been transformed into a luxurious, sustainable lodge where guests can enjoy hospitality, sport and the beauty of the Norwegian fjords.

Room
The 9 rooms are located in the Goat Barn, the Fisherman's Lodge and in the east wing of the main building. Each room has been individually designed, often with the help of renowned Norwegian interior designer Gunvor Røkholt, to create a warm and welcoming blend of traditional and modern Nordic style. The family that owns the farm has taken the time to ensure that each of the buildings has been renovated with the utmost care and attention to detail. The different styles of the buildings create the impression of a small, historically grown village.

The oldest of the guest buildings is the Fisherman's Cabin, which houses five rooms, including two single rooms. Two further rooms are located in the east wing and the Goat Barn houses the last two junior suites, each with a king-size bed and a sofa bed - ideal for families.

Gastronomy
Breakfast is served in the Goat Barn and dinner in the Smokehouse, which has been converted from a traditional smokehouse, once used to store catch from the river, into a warm and inviting dining room. Complete with roaring fire and long communal benches at the tables, it's the perfect place to relax with friends over dinner and a glass of wine after a day of fishing or walking, before taking a soothing dip in the hot tub.

Activities on offer include hiking, fly fishing on the Aurland River, cycling tours, tours around the Aurlandfjord and to the extraordinary Stegastein viewpoint, designed by Todd Saunders and Tommie Wilhelmsen, or kayaking on the fjord. Tours to Bergen and Troldhaugen are also on offer, as are trips on the Flåmsbana, the Flam railway, a trip to the Jostedalen glacier and skiing.

A visit to this part of Norway would not be complete without a visit to one of the country's famous stave churches. Urnes is the oldest church in Norway and the only one on the UNESCO World Heritage List!
