In the morning, you will be picked up at your hotel and travel around 20 kilometres south with your private, German-speaking tour guide to visit the ruins of the UNESCO World Heritage Site of Memphis, the former capital of the first province of Lower Egypt.
Thanks to its strategic position at the entrance to the Nile Delta, Memphis was home to many factories and production sites, including for weapons. The rise and fall of Memphis is closely linked to the history of the entire country. It was only with the growing importance of Alexandria that Memphis lost its economic role and, with the Edict of Thessalonica, its religious significance.
The tour then continues to Sakkara, an important ancient Egyptian necropolis on the western bank of the Nile. Almost all Egyptian tomb forms can be found in Sakkara: in addition to the step pyramid, there are also classic pyramids from the 5th and 6th dynasties, shaft tombs, gallery tombs and mastabas from all ancient Egyptian eras.
Even though you will certainly not be the only visitors: The pyramids of Giza and the Sphinx are simply part of a trip to Egypt! They are not only Egypt's most famous landmark in the world, but also one of the Seven Wonders of the Ancient World - of which it is still not fully known how they were built. Theories range from rope hoists, ramps and complicated lifting techniques for the stone blocks weighing up to 200 tonnes to more mysterious approaches such as those of Swiss bestselling author Erich von Däniken, who attributes the construction to extraterrestrials.
However, the three pyramids of Giza are far more than mere burial sites: built on the border between the fertile banks of the Nile and the barren desert, they are a place from which the dead god-king himself was to ensure the well-being of his people even after his death. And no effort was too great for the pharaoh during his lifetime!
If you consider the enormous dimensions, it is truly unimaginable how such a thing could have been achieved over 42 centuries ago: the base of the Pyramid of Khufu measures 227.5 metres long, it was originally 146.6 metres high and its volume is a massive 2.34 million cubic metres - making it the largest ancient stone structure in the world. The dimensions of the "Father of Silence", as the legendary Sphinx is called in Arabic, are also enormous. Its face alone is over 4 metres wide - albeit without its nose and beard, which were forcibly cut off in the 14th century and later taken to London by the British. She stoically watches over the entrance to the realm of the dead and over the so-called Dream Stele, which tells the story of the later King Thutmose IV between her paws.

East Bank
Luxor Temple: The enormous temple complex still dominates the centre of Luxor today. The building, which was begun around 1400 BC, is dedicated to the deities Amun and Mut and their son Khonso. Even the entrance, which the ancient Egyptians called the "Southern Harem of Amun", is impressive and is flanked by two huge seated statues of Ramses II. In front of the left-hand statue is an obelisk that once had a smaller sister - this has stood on the Place de la Concorde in Paris since it was donated to France. The 16 metre high colonnade inside the temple, whose walls are decorated with reliefs of the Opet festival, makes a huge impression.
Karnak Temple: Around 3 kilometres north of the Luxor Temple, an almost incomprehensible temple complex extends over an area of 250,000 m², which was built by dozens of rulers over 13 centuries. Archaeologists have still not succeeded in unravelling all the mysteries of Karnak. The most famous buildings at Karnak are the Temple of Amun, the Sanctuary of Khonsu and the Festival Temple of Thutmose III. There are also many other courtyards, halls, shrines and avenues. But hardly any other relic is as impressive as the huge forest of columns with 134 colossal pillars that tower up to 24 metres into the sky with an indestructible circumference of 10 metres!

Morning half-day excursion "East Bank Luxor"
West Bank
The "West Bank of Luxor" is the legendary Thebes on the west bank of the Nile. It includes the Valley of the Kings and Queens, the Colossi of Memnon, the Temple of Amenhotep III, the Temple of Hatshepsut and the Temple of Medinet Habu.
Valley of the Kings: The highlight is undoubtedly the Valley of the Kings, whose corridors symbolically wind their way deep into the realm of the dead. Even after thousands of years, this place radiates a strange dignity and remote seclusion that one would not expect so close to Cairo. In addition to the most famous tomb of Ramses IV, the more than 60 tombs include that of Tutankhamun, whose magnificent grave goods can be admired in the Egyptian Museum in Cairo.
Valley of the Queens: The female royalty of ancient Egypt rest in around 80 tombs not far away in the Valley of the Queens. The most important of these is that of Nefertiti, which is only accessible with special authorisation.
Colossi of Memnon: They probably got their name from the Greeks, who mistook the two stone statues for the hero Memnon. In fact, they are the only major remains of the temple built by Amenhotep III - the two 8 metre high seated "Colossi of Memnon", which were already a tourist magnet in ancient times. At sunrise, the statue on the right is said to have started singing, which scientists later explained as vibrations caused by the temperature difference between day and night in the cracks. However, since Emperor Septimus had the colossi restored in 199, the giant has fallen silent forever.
Hatshepsut Temple: Flat ramps connect the various terraces, which nestle against the mountainside over three levels. Many of the temple's colourful reliefs have been very well preserved and show various stages in the life of the goddess Hatshepsut. If you follow the narrow path to the right of the main entrance, you will reach the Valley of the Kings and the summit of the mountain with its fabulous views in just under an hour.
Medinet Habu Temple: This temple was intended to ensure the eternal life of Pharaoh Ramses III. With several courtyards, Medinet Habu is one of the best-preserved mortuary temples in Egypt.
After returning from the excursion, you will be taken from the Al Moudira Hotel to the Abundance jetty in Esna.

Cairo: The largest city in Africa
Cairo is considered the largest city in Africa, and its dimensions only really become visible when you land. Like a patchwork quilt with fraying edges, Cairo spreads out on the edge of the Sahara and eats up more land every day. Some call it a "Moloch", others a "Chaos City", but you have to see Cairo to understand the fascination of this megalopolis.
The political, economic and cultural centre of Egypt and the Arab world is also the country's most important transport hub. It is home to numerous universities, colleges, theatres, museums and architectural monuments.
Travelling by car is almost impossible and quickly pushes even the best drivers to their limits. Because, it seems, the only rule in Cairo's traffic is that there are no rules. However, if you make it to the heart of the city, Tahrir Square, you've already won. Most of the sights can be reached from there.
On this tour, we provide you with a private, German-speaking tour guide who will lead you safely through this impressive jumble. The programme can of course be varied according to your interests, but these sights are simply part of it:
Sultan Hassan Mosque: One of the largest and most important medieval mosques in Cairo.
The citadel with the Muhammad Ali Mosque: the city's landmark and one of the most beautiful mosques in Egypt with an alabaster-decorated interior.
Khan el-Khalili Bazaar: Located in Cairo's historic old town, it is considered the largest oriental souk in North Africa.
Egyptian Museum: Around 160,000 artefacts representing 5,000 years of history are exhibited in 107 rooms. The world's largest collection of ancient Egyptian art includes Tutankhamun's gold treasure, which consists of hundreds of individual pieces. Some of the pieces on display are among the most valuable artefacts in the world.
The synagogue of Ben Ezzra: Once the centre of the flourishing Jewish community in Egypt under the leadership of Rabbi Ben Ezra. The so-called "Geniza documents" were discovered here, which represent an unrivalled source of information about Jewish life in Egypt's past.
Coptic Museum: A wonderful collection of medieval statues, bells, bone carvings, frescoes and colourful textiles and writings.
Check out of the St. Regis in the morning and you will be transferred to Cairo Airport for your return flight to Frankfurt.
The Mena House in Cairo is one of the most historic hotels in Egypt. Situated at the foot of the famous pyramids of Giza, the palace hotel was originally used by Khedive Ismail, King of Egypt, as a stately residence. When the Suez Canal was opened, he had the guest house extended to accommodate international guests and members of royal families visiting the pyramids. Le Jardin" is an all-dining restaurant in the garden with oriental, Indian, Asian and continental dishes. Dine indoors or on the terrace with a view of the pyramids. In the adjoining bar you can enjoy an aperitif or round off the evening with a cocktail.
The "Mena Garden Spa" is visually an extension of the landscaped garden. On around 700 square metres, guests can expect a reception area, six treatment cabins for one or two people, a beauty salon, a fitness room and a spacious relaxation area.

They have a combined living/sleeping area, a walk-in wardrobe, a large, light-flooded bathroom with separate shower and in-ground bathtub, hairdryer, safe, minibar, two TVs, telephone, air conditioning and a private courtyard with a large terrace and sun loungers.
The Grand Suites extend over 125 square metres and also have their own swimming pool, which is heated in the cooler months, as well as a larger courtyard. The Royal Suites are very spacious at 225 square metres each and have a separate sleeping area, living room with dining area, kitchen and a very large courtyard with private pool and dining pavilion. The outdoor area is beautiful and offers complete privacy.
The restaurant area now offers a daily changing menu for lunch and dinner. Thai, Chinese and Japanese cuisine is also on offer. The à la carte restaurant serves international and oriental specialities in the evening, or you can dine in the Indian restaurant "Zaafran". Elegantly decorated in blue and silver, the restaurant offers a romantic ambience with live oriental music.
The "Pergola" pool bar offers salads, soups, pasta or pizza during the day as well as cocktails with a view of the sea. The bar offers an elegant setting for afternoon tea or a drink. A selection of international wines and spirits is complemented by a range of Cuban cigars and exquisite cocktails. Upon request, guests can enjoy a selection of Indian, Oriental and international dishes in the privacy of their suite.
There is also a diving centre in the hotel. It was completely renovated and reopened in June 2011. All the equipment has been completely renewed. Located on the West Bank of Luxor, just 15 minutes from the Nile and close to the Hatshepsut Temple and the Valley of the Kings, this hotel is personally managed by the owners. If these deadlines are exceeded or you require a separate individual visa for other reasons, you may incur considerable additional costs.
For the procurement of individual visas (from 15 working days processing time) we charge 69 € per person plus visa/consular fees of the embassy, necessary DHL costs, possible courier trips or express fees. Express visas (up to 7 working days) cost €89 per person, e-visas and online applications (from 7 working days processing time) cost from €59 per person, plus any additional costs mentioned above.

There are no vaccination requirements for direct entry from Germany. The country's climate ranges from Mediterranean on the Mediterranean coast and in the Nile Delta to desert-like in Cairo, Middle and Upper Egypt.
The best time to visit Egypt is mid-March to mid-May and mid-September to mid-November. This excludes the very hot and dry summer months and the somewhat cooler winter months, when temperatures are lower, especially at night. Depending on the region - whether on the Mediterranean coast, on the Red Sea, in the Nile Valley or in the Arabian Desert - there are small differences.
In spring, from March to June, a hot sand and dust wind from the south, the Chamsin, often blows through the country.
