Bwindi Impenetrable National Park is a sanctuary for the endangered mountain gorillas and also hosts chimpanzees and a variety of fascinating bird species. Among these birds are 23 of the Albertine Rift's 24 endemic species, including the African green broadbill and the Rwenzori turaco. To ensure you start tomorrow's exciting gorilla trekking adventure well-rested, it is advisable to go to bed early tonight.

Early rising in the morning. Trekking to see the mountain gorillas is one of the most exciting wildlife experiences in the world. The adventure can last between 2 and 6 hours, but the reward is truly remarkable. The trek will be accompanied by an experienced ranger who will provide fascinating insights into the flora, fauna and the intriguing lifestyle of these incredible gorillas.

An early breakfast is served at the lodge before you head to the Volcanoes National Park headquarters. Here, you will be assigned a guide for a briefing. Finally, your gorilla trek into the forest begins until you have discovered the unique primates. The time spent on foot depends on where the families are located on that day. Once spotted, you will spend a maximum of one hour with the gorilla family. After this phenomenal natural experience, you will return to your lodge.

German citizens require a visa to enter Rwanda and Uganda, with the „East Africa Tourist Visa“ representing the most flexible option for a combined trip. This visa, for a fee of 100 USD, allows multiple entries between Rwanda, Uganda, and Kenya within a 90-day period. Alternatively, individual visas for each country can be applied for in advance online as an e-visa, or in some cases, upon arrival. A passport or child's passport, valid for at least six months beyond the intended stay, is required for entry.

For entry into Uganda, proof of a valid yellow fever vaccination in the international vaccination certificate is mandatory for all travellers aged one year and over. In Rwanda, this proof is officially only required when entering from a yellow fever endemic area, but is often essential in practice when crossing borders between East African countries. In addition, malaria prophylaxis and vaccinations against hepatitis A and polio are strongly recommended for both countries to ensure comprehensive health protection.

In Uganda and Rwanda, due to their proximity to the equator, there is a mild, tropical highland climate with pleasant daytime temperatures ranging between 20 and 30 degrees Celsius year-round. The best times to visit for German holidaymakers are the two dry seasons from June to September and from December to February, as roads are then easily passable and conditions for gorilla trekking are optimal. During the rainy seasons from March to May and October to November, the landscape is certainly in lush green, but heavy showers and more difficult hiking conditions in the mountain regions must be expected.
