Look forward to game drives in a 4x4 vehicle. Ancient baobab trees stretch their withered branches towards the sky, offering a magnificent backdrop for extended game drives. Tarangire National Park is particularly known for its giant baobab trees. These trees can reach enormous sizes and have a very unusual shape. However, the park is also famous for being home to one of the largest elephant populations in the world! Here, you can observe herds of up to 300 elephants around the Tarangire River. Zebras and wildebeest come to the riverbanks to bathe and drink. Giraffes and ostriches, impalas and waterbucks gladly join them. With a bit of luck, you might even spot lions, cheetahs, and Nile crocodiles. Ornithologists will be delighted by the metallic blue-shimmering lilac-breasted rollers, Hamerkop, African fish eagles, and saddle-billed storks.
Early in the morning, you will set off with your Driver Guide to the Ngorongoro Crater. Approximately 25,000 large mammals live together in a confined space on the crater floor. Here you will find the typical wildlife of the East African savannas; only giraffes and some species of antelope shy away from the descent. The Big 5 are found here, and the predator density is unique worldwide. At the same time, the UNESCO World Natural Heritage site is also a refuge for the rare and still-endangered black rhinoceros. Against this backdrop, you can expect a series of the most impressive experiences of your journey today.

The unique aspect of the conservation concept is that, unlike national parks and wildlife reserves, it also anchors the integration and specific use of the area by the Maasai. Consequently, visitors frequently encounter the Maasai, who are permitted to live here with their cattle and utilise the natural resources for their nomadic way of life.
The Ngorongoro Crater in Tanzania lends its name to the entire wildlife area. It is a caldera, the sunken crater of a volcano that exploded millions of years ago, with a width of 20 km and forested rims up to 610 m high. There is no single caldera in the world with a comparable animal population: zebras, lions, buffalo, rhinos and elephants, gazelles, wildebeest, waterbuck, eland and other antelopes, warthogs, leopards, hyenas and jackals can be observed here.
A visit to the crater is one of the highlights of any trip to Tanzania. Due to the weather, the long rainy season in April/May should be avoided, and the most popular travel period of July/August also entails certain limitations on the experience due to the high number of visitors in the Ngorongoro Crater. The „Ngorongoro Conservation Area“ also encompasses smaller craters such as „Empakaai“ or „Olmoti“ further into the highlands to the northeast, as well as the vast, flat plain of the Malanja Depression in the west, and the Olduvai Gorge, which became famous for the discovery of numerous hominid fossils. While only jeep safaris are permitted within the Ngorongoro Crater itself, attractive hikes are also offered in the highlands.

Tanzania has a mild, tropical climate all year round. The best time to visit is from June to September. The rainy season is from March to May and from October to November.
