Almost every evening, the hotel organises a social hour at sunset, where guests meet by the fire on the terrace or in the pavilion by the pond and chat to each other over wine, finger food and chilled music. Keep an eye on the notice board in the lobby for all the activities on offer, it's worth it!
The rooms have one of four design themes: Gold, Country, Tree or Love. Our favourite in the Love category is the Nha Cretcheu room, which features a raised four-poster bed with a frame of slender wooden branches, a seductive fireplace next to the bed (with a supply of logs to light it), a whirlpool bathtub and an invigorating outdoor shower. Chandeliers with spaghetti-thin crystalline filaments add sparkle and a huge bathtub overlooks the gardens. Terra is a cosy tree room with a wooden four-poster bed, a desk overlooking the garden, a Jacuzzi, his and hers showers, a fireplace and a terrace. For group bookings and larger families, the property also offers a range of villas.
Sustainability: The luxury hotel Areias do Seixo had sustainable tourism in mind from the very beginning. Sustainability aspects characterise the hotel, with stone, pebbles, glass and wood from the region being reused. The energy-efficient accommodation is powered by renewable energy (geothermal and solar energy) and the air conditioning is replaced by natural ventilation. The restaurant uses produce from the hotel's own organic vegetable garden and from local farmers, and rainwater is used in the garden and bathrooms. Disposable plastic is of course not permitted. Most of the staff are local employees, and the hotel also supports a local community association that promotes sustainability and water sports for local youth and families.

Portugal has a temperate maritime climate. However, there are regional differences. In the north, it is generally somewhat wetter and cooler than in the south. In the rather mountainous regions in the north-east, the climate is much more continental than in the rest of the country. For city trips and sightseeing, spring and autumn are recommended with mostly pleasant temperatures. In Lisbon, temperatures in July are around 30 degrees, while Porto is slightly cooler in summer at 25 degrees.
