Livorno, a child of the Renaissance itself, is the gateway to Tuscany – the land of cypress trees, Italian lifestyle, art, and architecture. Lucca is considered the masterpiece of the Renaissance. Beautiful city palaces, richly decorated churches, and elegant piazzas, on which Italian summer life takes centre stage – this charming city combines the splendour of typical Tuscan architecture with the charm of a small town. Siena is considered one of the most beautiful Italian cities in the Gothic style. Its old town, like the medieval noble towers of the world-famous castle village of San Gimignano, is a UNESCO World Heritage Site.

A beautiful promenade and, on a peninsula, the old town of Alghero, which presents itself defiantly behind thick fortress walls. Alghero is very special: Many buildings and squares in the charming old town were built during the Catalan rule, and some of the inhabitants still speak a Catalan dialect today. That is why the city is affectionately called „Little Barcelona“. Grand city palaces, numerous churches and towers, winding alleys and lively squares with nice bars and restaurants offer a walk through a Middle Ages characterised by Catalan Gothic architecture.

The island capital of Mahón boasts the largest natural harbour in the Mediterranean. The harbour of the former capital, Ciutadella, translating to „little town“, lies picturesquely on a fjord-like bay. It is considered one of the most beautiful cities in Spain and enchants with narrow old town alleys, majestic squares and pretty promenades. Menorca naturally has two sides: in the north, the wild Tramuntana mountain region with a rugged coastline and hidden coves; in the south, rolling hills with vast plains and seemingly endless sandy beaches. Declared a UNESCO Biosphere Reserve, the little sister of Mallorca is considerably quieter and more unspoiled.

Beyond the spectacular, partly wildly rugged island coast with countless bays, Ibiza shows its traditional side: the original hinterland is crisscrossed by gentle hills with scattered fincas.

Málaga has spruced itself up: The Museo Picasso, which is dedicated to the artist's extensive life's work, opened in a 16th century Renaissance palace in 2003. The historic old town invites you to stroll around, buildings shine in new splendour. And the mighty Moorish Alcazaba fortress towers above it all. The harbour was completely redesigned when the city was opened up to the sea and the promenade is a wonderful place to stroll. In the hinterland of Málaga, traditional Andalusia shows its most beautiful side: from afar, the typical Andalusian villages look like white blobs of colour that outshine the brown of the barren mountain landscapes.
