The exciting day begins with freshly brewed coffee or tea at the breakfast table. Food for a picnic lunch is taken along, because how exactly the day will go depends first and foremost on how your first encounter with the wild lions of Kilombero takes place. With the help of recorded territorial roars and giant loudspeakers, lions in the area are lured and then anaesthetised. The complete process of taking blood and tissue samples, measuring and treating any injuries and finally fitting the collar with the transmitters then begins.
You are directly involved in the events and can actively help out, and there are also unrivalled opportunities for photography and video documentation. You will be amazed and, above all, impressed by the sheer size and power of the lion's body, a killing machine perfectly designed by nature with muscles, claws and teeth.
Depending on the course of the day, or even if it doesn't work out today with an encounter, you will place game cameras, also known as "photo traps", at promising locations on the way back or in the afternoon from the camp. The images will be analysed with you on the last evening and you will also learn a lot about game species that are not normally seen on a safari or that you generally know little about!
